Our Opinion of Mirihi Island Resort

Mirihi will close for renovations between 5th May and 30th November 2025. There are planned enhancements to the villas, public areas and recreational facilities, including the addition of four 2-bedroom water pool suites and a new main infinity pool with views across the lagoon. The resort is due to re-open on 1st December 2025

Mirihi has been around for over 20 years, during which it has built a loyal base of repeater clients that return again and again to a welcoming and homely atmosphere.

It’s a naturally pretty island, with a great beach that extends about two-thirds of the way around, and provides easy access to a very nice house reef. The location is perfect, nestled in the inner part of the South Ari Atoll, with year-round access to Whaleshark, Manta and myriad dive sites.

The award-winning Ocean Pro dive centre also manage the Project Hope coral conservation and regeneration program, that is successfully restoring corals to bleaching-damaged parts of the reef.

There are just 38 villas, 6 on the beach, 30 over water, and 2 two-bedroom suites. They may be a little small and old-fashioned by modern standards, but they have been given a facelift and nice new bathrooms.

Dining is high quality for this level of resort, particularly in Muraka over-water restaurant, which is a must, but we also really like the spacious Dhonveli main restaurant with well-separated tables, and super-soft sand floors that extend all the way through the bar and reception areas. We also welcome the introduction of Half Board Plus and Full Board Plus meal plans, which include drinks with meals in Dhonveli, throughout the day in the Anba bar, plus soft drinks and beers in your mini bar and sundowner cocktails at Muraka.

When guests are not diving or snorkelling, there are other non-motorised water sports, a small, nicely-equipped gym, and a little Duniye spa.

The well-established and committed management team ensure that Mirihi runs like clockwork, and service feels friendly and personal. With the limited number of keys and enthusiastic repeaters, this little Maldivian gem needs to be booked well in advance for high season.

    Mirihi Island Resort Summary

Mirihi will close for renovations between 5th May and 30th November 2025. There are planned enhancements to the villas, public areas and recreational facilities, including the addition of four 2-bedroom water pool suites and a new main infinity pool with views across the lagoon. The resort is due to re-open on 1st December 2025

Mirihi is located in South Ari Atoll and reached from Male Airport by seaplane in about 30 minutes. It is a delightful island with fantastic beaches and gives you the feeling of being on a private island. Because most of the accommodation is built over water there is plenty of space despite the island being small.

At the arrivals end of the island there is a huge expanse of sand. The beaches at each end and on the south side are magnificent and unspoilt by groynes. Being very small it takes no time at all to walk from from one side to the other or from the reception area to the water villas.

This is most certainly the type of resort that you can come back to time and time again when you need to recharge the batteries.

Perhaps the only thing missing that would make Mirihi even better is a swimming pool. However given the wonderful lagoon and beaches this can be forgiven.

Being very small Mirihi is not the sort of resort you would visit for its land based activities. However there is a fully equipped state-of-the-art gym for those who like to keep in shape or work off the pounds collected in the Dhonveli and Muraka Restaurants.

Other popular activities include football, table tennis, darts and a variety of board games.

Take one of the ocean kayaks and paddle around the island. The use of watersports equipment is complimentary to all guests at Mirihi including kayaks, stand-up paddles and snorkelling equipment.

Diving is a priority for many guests and a great reason to visit the resort. The dive centre, Ocean Pro Mirihi, caters for all levels of divers from first time wishing to learn the basics to experienced divers wanting to fine-tune their techniques. Situated in South Ari Atoll and with over 40 dive sites in reach and a multi-lingual team, every guest gets personal service. Mirihi's location in South Ari atoll means it's possible to spot whalesharks year-round, and the winter season can be good for mantas just a few minutes away by boat.

In addition, Mirihi can also offer a selection of excursions to take you off the island including sunset dolphin cruises, whaleshark seeking, snorkelling safaris, visits to local islands and more.
