Amanwella

Amanwella is located in a mature coconut grove, fronting a crescent-shaped beach, in Southern Sri Lanka. Drawing its name from the Sanskrit-derived word for 'peace', and wella, or 'beach' in Sinhalese, this contemporary beach resort offering 30 suites with beach or ocean views, each with private plunge pool and terrace, linked by pathways along a landscaped rise.

Guests can relax on the expansive terrace surrounding the main pool or on the soft sandy beach.

The seaside town of Tangalle is situated nearby and the opportunity to experience village life, and Sri Lanka's diverse flora and fauna, is just a short stroll away.

The 47-metre swimming pool is backed by a large terrace, and overlooks the bay and the beach - the views are particularly spectacular at sunset. Spa treatments at the resort include facials and massages, and are offered in the Spa Suite, the privacy of guest suites or in select garden locations. Yoga is offered in the coconut grove beyond the Beach Club.

The Restaurant has panoramic views of the bay, and serves Mediterranean and Asian cuisines. Fresh fish is delivered daily by the local fishermen.

Open on all sides, the Lounge Bar has ocean and garden views and serves a range of light snacks and drinks.

The Library lies between the Restaurant and the Lounge Bar, and is the ideal venue for afternoon tea. The Boutique sells a selection of Sri Lankan artefacts, jewellery, textiles and antiques.

The Beach Club is a picturesque dining venue situated at the western end of the beach; it also provides the perfect setting for romantic beach barbecues in the evenings.

Amanwella can arrange surfing lessons, scuba diving and boat trips for fishing, dolphin or whale spotting. Cultural and nature excursions offered by the resort include seeing the fishermen on stilts, watching whales in Mirissa Bay and visiting the rock temples at Mulgirigala.
