Salalah

Salalah is the largest city in the Dhofar region of Oman located in the far south west of the country. It is also the 2nd largest city in Oman and its capital before the current Sultan, Sultan Qaboos moved it to Muscat. Flights to Salalah take approximately 1 1/2 hours from Muscat.

Salalah is unusual in that the area experiences a monsoon season, known as the Khareef between the months of July and September. The rain not only cools the temperature but is sufficient to turn the desert terrain to lush green pastures. The cooler temperatures also makes this area a haven for travellers seeking respite from the searing temperatures the summer months bring across the rest of the region.
