Our Opinion of Amilla

The most recent Angelfish visitors to Amilla were Dan & Jo.
Amilla Maldives is a standout luxury resort that effortlessly blends modern design with the natural beauty of the Maldives. Located in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of Baa Atoll, this resort offers a unique and refreshing take on Maldivian luxury, making it a compelling choice for a wide range of travellers.

From the moment of arrival, it’s hard not to be struck by the juxtaposition of the resort’s contemporary aesthetic and lush surroundings. The island is beautifully green, with a vibrant house reef that encircles it—perfect for snorkelling enthusiasts. The villas’ modern, minimalist design is striking, with clean lines and geometric shapes that feel fresh and distinctive. While the style may not appeal to everyone, there’s no denying the smart, spacious interiors, which are some of the largest to be found in the Maldives.

The accommodation options are diverse and thoughtfully designed, catering to everything from intimate getaways to large group stays. The villas start at an impressive 100sqm interiors, ensuring space and comfort are never compromised, and progress in size all the way to the sprawling 8-bedroom residence.

Our personal favourites are the Reef Water Villas, which sit on the jetty closest to the house reef. Stepping off the deck directly into the water and snorkelling along the reef’s dramatic drop-off is an unforgettable experience. For something truly unique, the Tree Top Villas are a marvel, with their suspended pools surrounded by the jungle canopy. (See more on our Amilla accommodation page)

Dining at Amilla is a highlight, with a variety of restaurants that cater to every palate. Breakfast at Fresh offers a mix of à la carte and buffet options in a relaxed indoor-outdoor setting. For lunch, Tessera serves up delicious Greek mezze and Mediterranean dishes, while EBC (Emperor Beach Club) offers a chic beach club vibe. Don’t miss Joe’s Pizza, which is open all day and perfect for a casual bite. Dinner options are equally impressive, with standout dishes like the fish tikkas at East—an absolute must-try. Wine lovers should make time for a tasting at The Cellar Door, where the knowledgeable sommeliers guide you through an exceptional selection.

The resort’s flexible meal plans, ranging from B&B to All Inclusive, make it easy to tailor your stay to your preferences. We were particularly impressed by the extensive menus catering to dietary requirements, including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, keto, and paleo options.

Service at Amilla is seamless and personalised, thanks to the experienced leadership of GM Narelle and the attentive Katheebs (personal butlers) assigned to each villa. They ensure every detail of your stay is taken care of, from arranging activities to anticipating your needs before you even ask.

The resort’s facilities are extensive and well thought out. The spa is a serene retreat, offering treatments that blend relaxation with rejuvenation. Fitness enthusiasts will appreciate the indoor and jungle gyms, tennis courts, and water sports centre. Families are well catered for with a kids’ club, while the Dive Butler dive centre opens up the incredible underwater world of Baa Atoll, including nearby Hanifaru Bay.

But perhaps the star of the show is Amilla’s house reef. The coral gardens on the sunset side are teeming with marine life, while the sunrise side offers a dramatic drop-off that’s a snorkeller’s dream. Whether you’re a seasoned diver or a first-time snorkeller, the reef is a treasure trove waiting to be explored.

Amilla’s broad appeal is one of its greatest strengths. It’s equally suited to couples seeking romance, families looking for space and activities, or groups of friends wanting a mix of relaxation and adventure. The resort strikes a perfect balance between laid-back luxury and active exploration, making it ideal for those who want to do as much—or as little—as they please.

    Sustainability and Inclusivity

As an EarthCheck Silver-certified resort, Amilla has various initiatives in place to minimise its impact on the delicate surrounding environment. The large gardens produce a variety of herbs, vegetables, fruits, and mushroom for use in the kitchens, and the resort has its own chicken and duck farm, Cluckingham Palace, where guests can collect fresh eggs for breakfast. There is even a coconut processing facility that produces not only coconut milk and cream, but also cold-pressed oil, rope, and other usable products.

Amilla is also the world's first Inclucare-certified resort, and collaborates closely with a team of UK-based specialists on accessible travel. Staff members are trained in supporting not only guests with mobility impairments, but also those with hearing and visual impairments as well as hidden disabilities. Ramps and lifts can be added to most villas, and both beach wheelchairs and swimming wheelchairs are complimentary. Please contact us for additional details.
