Fundu Lagoon

Fundu Lagoon is on Pemba Island, the sister island to Zanzibar lying across the Pemba Channel to the north. The hotel is situated on a remote and beautiful beach on the south western side of the island and is only accessible boat. Building a resort in Pemba is a Herculean task and only those with incredible energy and determination will find success. The owners of Fundu have achieved exactly that and the result is a 'barefoot paradise' with little to compare it against.
Transfer to the hotel is normally by light aircraft to Chake Chake airport from Zanzibar or the mainland. After arriving there is a short vehicle ride to Mkoani (45 mins) where a speedboat will pick you up for the short transfer to Fundu (10 mins).

The 18 rooms, consisting of designer tents set under makuti (thatch) roofs on wooden decks are scattered acrros the hillside and along the beach with views to the sea. The rooms are equipped with large double or twin beds , mosquito nets, ceiling and standing fans and sitting areas indoors and outdoors. Each has an ensuite bathroom with fresh hot water. 5 of the rooms are suites next to the beach which have larger decks, a special relaxation area plus private plunge pool. There is also a Jungle Suite, set back from the beach, but also benefiting from its own private plunge pool.

The resort also boasts an infinity pool, spa, bar and restaurant.

One of the prime reasons for visiting Fundu is the superb diving around Misali Island. The hotel has a couple of dive-boats with twin 115HP outboards so reaching dive spots never takes very long. The Dive Centre is PADI affiliated and of the highest standard. The hotel also offers catamaran cruises plus a selection of other excursions for non-divers. The complimentary sunset cruise is very popular with guests.

Room rates here are on an All-Inclusive basis so you can drink as much as you want with worrying about the bill. Fundu Lagoon is not recommended for children under the age of 12.

If you can afford it Fundu Lagoon is one of the very best destinations in this area and it comes highly recommended.
