Shanti Maurice

Our Opinion
Update: from July 1st 2017 guests can enjoy unlimited complimentary golf at the new Avalon Golf Estate. Shuttle transfer, green fee, golf cart and driving range balls included!

Shanti Maurice is perhaps Mauritius' best kept secret in our opinion.

It was originally built as a spa resort, but has since spread its wings. While the fabulous spa remains a range of facilities have been added and this is a real all-round quality resort.

Set in 36 acres of lush vegetation, this is a classy and intimate property, with excellent service, ideal for honeymooners (brides stay for free and loads of extras are thrown in!) or those seeking indulgent, yet unfussy luxury. The suites are spacious with an understated elegance and they also offer villas on the other side of the resort.

Some will tell you there are no good beaches on the South Coast of Mauritius. We can only assume they haven't visited Shanti, which has a lovely long stretch of sand, as well as a more dramatic, rugged shoreline. This is where the superb Fish Shack & Rum Shed are located - an evening here, eating wonderfully authentic Mauritian food and watching the breakers and your hectic life back home seems like a distant memory!

We think the food is great. As well as refined restaurant dining, you can also take a picnic in the grounds. Shanti Maurice also invites you to experience the art of Mauritian home cooking with its latest food initiative: La Kaze Mama. Combining two of the hotel’s most popular dining experiences; Grandma’s Kitchen and the Herb Garden BBQ, the new experience will enable guests to taste truly authentic Mauritian home cooking in a memorable outdoor setting.

Shanti Maurice is an absolute gem and comes with our highest recommendation.

Top tip: If the budget doesn't stretch to visit here for your whole stay, why not combine with a stay at 20 Degres Sud in the North of the Island.

    Summary
Shanti Maurice occupies 36 acres on the south coast of Mauritius, nestled between sugar cane fields and the turquoise waters of the Indian ocean.

The suites and villas all face towards the ocean and the pristine white beach and are among the most generously proportioned in Mauritius. The villas all have private pools and are surrounded by exotic private gardens, terraces and courtyards.

There are plenty of dining options, with the emphasis on fresh, locally-sourced seafood and other produce from the resort's kitchen garden.

While the children are entertained at the kids' club, grown-ups can enjoy a range of activities such as yoga, beach volleyball, snorkelling, kayaks, tennis, golf (putting green) and a gym. There is also a well-stocked library, plus of course the bars and restaurants to pass the time in. Many off-site activities are available, including horse riding, big game fishing, scuba diving, quad biking and more.

For further indulgence and relaxation, the Nira Spa occupies 7,000m² - one of the largest spas in the Indian ocean.
